Born 20 January 1971, in Frodsham, Cheshire.
When he was 15, Gary entered a BBC competition called A Song for Christmas. After he got to the semi-finals with his song Let’s Pray For Christmas, he was invited to London to record his song. This inspired Gary to perform on the northern club circuit, singing cover versions and his own songs.
Gary released his first single Love Is In The Air at the age of 18, under the stage name Kurtis Rush, and was introduced to pop manager Nigel Martin-Smith who formed Take That and made Gary lead singer.
As one of the most successful songwriters of the 1990s, Gary wrote more than 16 hit Take That singles.
After the band split, Gary had two solo number ones and five further top 40 UK singles. Gary is also a five-time winner of the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards.
